sill

Canberra red brick, polymer clay, 925 silver, stainless steel, 2018.

The sill is often seen but rarely considered by the viewer. It’s deeply rooted in memories of being inside a home and looking out. The sill is often in the foreground and looked beyond. It is also a characteristic that greets us when coming home. This structural element links the internal to the external; and for some, it might trigger comfort and security of being inside safe and warm.

This brooch is a wearable miniature of this architectural feature.
